I refuse to drive in Italy or Brazil!
………I enjoyed driving in Italy. Although I didn't drive in Brazil, I was always comfortable with the people showing me around Rio.

We're much safer drivers
………I don't know if that's true but I do know that, several times over the years, I've praised Los Angeles drivers in this forum.

is it difficult to drive in Los Angeles? . . . Anything I should know about?
………For years I have marvelled and the courtesy of the Los Angeles and other Southern California drivers. In my experience, they are the most courteous drivers in the known universe!
………I was driving there last week and loving every minute of it. They're fabulous!
………One thing of which you should be aware:
………The Left lane is often for vehicles with a passenger. Many roads are designed that such lanes sometimes have their own, Left, exit from the highway. When they don't, an angled arrow will direct you to the Right side of the road to exit.
………Also they drive fast. The posted speed limit is ignored whenever possible.

………I have to agree with this assessment. I lived for a few years in the LA area, and didn't appreciate the courtesy of the majority of drivers there until I moved back east to the DC area. It's night and day in attitude. The SoCal drivers are predictible even though the average freeway speeds are 70+ mph. Here the speeds are the same if not faster, and they are totally unpredictable.

………Be prepared for very heavy traffic most any time of the day or night you're likely to be driving.
………The freeways in the city of Los Angeles will probably be jammed any time except the wee hours of the morning. It's not must a rush hour phenomenon. I-405 by LAX falls in this category.
………Plan your trip times accordingly and bring plenty of patience.
………Outside the city of Los Angeles, the freeways are less congested and people drive much faster than the posted speed limit. Be prepared to match the prevailing speed or stay the hell out of their way.

………Seconded. Traffic in LA is fast and heavy, but orderly. Living in Washington aka the left lane blocker capital of the US, the difference is like night and day.
